The Bar

The SMU Law Society, affectionately known as "The Bar", is the student representative body of the SMU School of Law. The Sixth Management Committee (6th MC) of The Bar consists of eight student leaders. Students can look forward to a slew of fun and unique-to-law events, against the backdrop of professional and academic development initiatives that equip our students to thrive in tomorrow's legal world.

SMU Moot Court Club

Established in 2007, the Moot Court Club was formed to facilitate the development of mooting in SMU School of Law. During the semester, the club will help to organise various moot competitions which are open to ALL law students. Our primary mission is to increase the awareness of mooting and promote a strong mooting culture in the SMU School of Law. Mooting is an integral part of law school and the club is committed to helping students who are interested in mooting to attain the skills and experience required to participate and win.

SMU Law International Relations Club

The SMU Law International Relations Club strives to forge and strengthen ties between SMU law students and the international law student community. We collaborate extensively with NUS to create ample opportunities for dynamic interaction, intellectual discourse and the fostering of newfound friendships among international law students.

Our exciting opportunities include scintillating legal discourse, moots and even Mock UN conferences, allowing both conservative progressive opinions to develop at an international level as we weave legal theories in a forum of ideas to create a tapestry of intellectual thought.

Our club prides itself with organising and participates in international study and legal conferences. Meanwhile, we also host foreign professors and students and run the exchange buddy programme for the law exchange students.

Afterwards, we go makan and drink beer.

This is SMU IRC.

SMU Criminal Law Club

The SMU Criminal Law Club aims to provide students with opportunities to put their criminal law knowledge into practice and to better understand the field
Description

The Club was founded in early 2012 by a group of students passionate about giving SMU students opportunities to learn more about the criminal law practice. As many students do not have much exposure to this area of law apart from class, few have a proper idea of what criminal law in practice is like. Hence we aim to create as many opportunities for students to:
1) put 'theory into practice' through various internships and research projects and,
2) better understand the industry through engaging with significant members in the field.

SMU Law Athletes

The SMU Law Athletes (SMULA) was officially made a sub-club of the Bar in 2012.The club is not for the faint-hearted: our members continually challenge themselves in both the mind and the body. Some highlights for SMULA in 2012 include: the Captain’s Ball League; exploratory runs around the city; conducting multiple sports clinics; and winning gold in the inter-faculty category of SMUX AdRace 2012, which was a gruelling 40km overnight adventure race. We welcome all aspiring individuals into the club as we seek to achieve the club’s vision of “officium, honorem, victoria” – Latin for Duty, Honor, and Victory.
